The Backpacking Blonde

Packing your suitcase for a 2 week beach holiday can cause a serious headache. However, as my glamourous friend Jayne aka The Backpacking Blonde (www.thebackpackingblonde.blogspot.com) has discovered, packing a 60 litre backpack for a year-long, round the world trip is even trickier.

Myself and Jayne travelled to Asia and Australia together 4 years ago and the key to packing for a long period of time with limited clothing is definitely about ensuring you get the basics right.

I thought I would send Jayne pictures of some celebrities in their best summer looks to inspire her to create her own haute holiday wardrobe... or backpack!

Even with access to endless designer clothing, celebrities tend to stick to what they know suits them best and what they feel most comfortable in.

The first celebrity I decided to look at is Mollie King who is, without doubt, The Queen of Shorts. She knows that by changing her top or adding a pair of heels, her trusty shorts will take her from day at the beach to night at the club.

It is essential when travelling to make sure you get the basics right. You will be able to create so many fun looks with a great pair of shorts simply by changing the top.
H&M £14.99 (www.hm.com)

Add a grey printed tee for a rock chick vibe or a a casual striped tee. Everything goes with a classic denim short...
Haute Hippie £85 (www.net-a-porter.com)
J. Crew £35 (www.net-a-porter.com)

Bearing in mind how often you are going to be wearing the items you take with you, I would suggest going for as good a quality t-shirt as you can afford. It is more likely to last you the duration of your trip without looking like it has seen better days.
James Perse £65 (www.net-a-porter.com)

A cute little fine knit sweater looks great with shorts too. I love these colourful Topshop sweaters.

Topshop £34 (www.topshop.com)

White shorts are equally easy to dress up with a cute little camisole or a bright vest top.

River Island £15 (www.riverisland.co.uk)

Splendid £85 (www.net-a-porter.com)

Of course, accessories are also key to this look and I love Mollie's commitment to high heels!

This fab pair from Aldo at ASOS will be comfy and practical (well, as practical as a pair of 5" platform heels can be!) as they will go with everything...

Mollie loves a little trilby to keep her head cool and her gorgeous blonde locks out of the sun.

A big bag that will go with every summer look is another essential when travelling. I love this tan shopper bag from Zara that is a hit with celebrities such as Ms Mollie and the uber stylish Olivia Palermo.
Zara £79.99 (www.zara.com)
Jayne is always super stylish so I have no doubt that she will be the best dressed traveller ever, even carrying a backpack bigger than her...

Little Miss Riley... up to mischief as usual in Sydney ;)

And then when the book gets turned into a movie, I'll get us some kick ass dresses for the premiere!! I was actually thinking the other day about your holiday tip for stopping your shoulders getting burnt - just wear your bikini on them like shoulder pads!! hahaha!! xxx
